During Prince Indah’s wedding in Migori, a man identified as Kevin Omondi, 28, shocked onlookers when he grabbed onto the skids of Oga Obinna’s helicopter as it was taking off. Videos of the incident went viral, showing Omondi dangling mid-air before eventually losing his grip and falling into a nearby bush. Miraculously, he survived with minor injuries.
At the time, Oga Obinna, who had hired the chopper for the event, expressed his disbelief, saying:
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. This guy just jumped and held the helicopter like it was a matatu! He’s lucky to be alive.”
Omondi was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with endangering his life and causing a disturbance. In court, he pleaded guilty, admitting that he acted out of excitement. However, the prosecution argued that his actions were reckless and could have led to a fatal accident.
Migori Senior Resident Magistrate ruled that Omondi’s actions were dangerous and warranted punishment.
“The accused knowingly put his life and others at risk. Such behavior cannot be condoned, and a strong message must be sent to deter others from similar acts,” the magistrate stated.
Omondi was given the option of paying a Ksh 500,000 fine or serving an 18-month jail term. Given his financial situation, it is unclear whether he will be able to raise the hefty fine.
